    Total failure is something I would strongly advise against at all costs. Consistently reaching total failure often indicates that your weights are too heavy or your technique requires improvement. Technical failure is more nuanced, as individual responses to training intensity can vary widely. For people who are highly sensitive to training and less fatigue-resistant, even reaching technical failure might generate excessive fatigue and hinder recovery. In contrast, those who are more fatigue-resistant may benefit from pushing their sets closer to or just beyond technical failure (allowing for minor technique breakdown) to stimulate further progress.


    Ultimately, recognizing your own fatigue thresholds and recovery capacity can help you determine how close to failure you should train in each session. This individualized approach to training intensity ensures you're stimulating growth without compromising recovery or technique quality.


    When Training to Failure Can Be Beneficial



    When all else is equal, performing more reps with correct technique results in a more stimulating set.
